The Orson Starr House celebrated its 180th birthday on October 19. Volunteers led tours, answered questions and served a celebratory birthday cake.
The Royal Oak Civic Foundation underwrote the event with a $2,000 grant to the City of Royal Oak Historical Commission.
“Most of our visitors were here for the first time,” said a commission representative. “The support of the Royal Oak Civic Foundation helped the historical commission enhance the experience and bring awareness, as a larger percentage of visitors yesterday were new to the Orson Starr House.”
The Starr house was built in 1845 and the Starr family built a business in Royal Oak making cowbells and bricks. Read its history here.
