Oakland County, MI – Oakland County Executive Dave Coulter has appointed civic foundation Trustee Julie Lyons Bricker as its chief sustainability officer who will move the county toward its bold vision to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
Before moving to the county, Lyons Bricker was the civic foundation’s executive director as well as the city of Royal Oak’s energy and sustainability manager. She is the foundation’s current vice chair, chairs the operations committee and serves on the grants committee.
“Julie magnifies the success of every organization she serves,” said foundation Chair Tom McGannon. “She helped launch this foundation in 2019 and so values our work that she offered to return as a volunteer, an offer we happily accepted.”
Lyons Bricker brings more than two decades of experience in sustainability leadership, project management and public service to her new role. Her career spans both public and nonprofit sectors, previously serving as Oakland County’s sustainability manager.
Lyons Bricker holds a bachelor of science in orestry from Michigan Technological University and has completed the Executive Education for Sustainability Leadership program at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. She is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and LEED AP O+M (operations and maintenance).
Under Lyons Bricker’s leadership, in her previous role as the county’s sustainability manager, Oakland County was awarded the USGBC LEED for Cities Gold certification and Gold Certification by the Michigan Green Communities (MGC) program for its leadership in environmental sustainability, climate resilience and community engagement.
Lyons Bricker is a 24 year resident of Royal Oak. She enjoys gardening, rock climbing, and walking in the Cummingston Nature Park, her neighborhood park.
