For more than 30 years, an annual grant of $46,500 from Corewell Health in partnership with the Royal Oak Civic Foundation has helped fund senior transportation and the Adjacent Generational Coordinator position in Royal Oak, connecting older residents to care, community, and daily essentials. More than just a ride, this safe, reliable transportation program supports healthy, independent living.
Corewell Health’s longstanding investment provides access for seniors to travel to the places that matter most including primary and specialty care checkups, preventive screenings, and pharmacies. Dedicated vans make weekly grocery trips possible and bring residents on day trips to the zoo, Detroit Institute of Arts, and many local restaurants.
“Reliable, safe transportation is a bridge to overall well-being,” said Yolanda Botello McClain, senior center coordinator. “Corewell Health and the Royal Oak Civic Foundation are essential partners in making sure Royal Oak seniors can age in place while remaining an active part of our community.”
The Adjacent Generational Coordinator provides essential services to seniors including state health insurance program counseling, home assessments, emergency services advocacy, and senior resources coordination including lunch and learns.
The impact shows up in everyday moments: a specialist visit that catches a condition early, a fitness class that improves balance, a tax workshop that protects a fixed income. Each trip supports independence; each program promotes connections.
