Summer in Royal Oak just wouldn’t be the same without the Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce’s Summer Concert Series! This beloved tradition transforms Centennial Commons Park in downtown Royal Oak into a hub of music, dancing, and community connection every Thursday evening through August 14.
The free concerts kicked off on July 10 with a lively mix of klezmer and R&B soul bands and have been keeping toes tapping ever since. Each concert opens with performances by talented students from the Detroit School of Rock and Pop, setting the stage for a night of unforgettable music.
So far, the series has showcased everything from Jimi Hendrix and Bonnie Raitt tribute bands to Detroit legends, good-time rock ’n’ roll, and dance hits. And the fun isn’t over yet! Upcoming shows will feature an eclectic mix of indie, soul, funk, R&B, and Motown—guaranteed to get everyone grooving.
These concerts are a truly all-ages experience. Neighbors and friends gather to relax, meet new people, and enjoy the company of countless friendly dogs. Dancing is absolutely encouraged, and it’s always a joy to see both kids and adults moving to the music.
at the Summer Concert Series!
Between sets, attendees can explore vendor tables, including the Royal Oak Civic Foundation’s booth, which shares information about its mission and its upcoming annual charity event. (My personal highlights so far? Discovering the fantastic band Klezundhiet and making a new canine friend, Hogan, a gentle giant who stole my heart!)
As Royal Oak residents, we’re lucky to enjoy this kind of no-cost social opportunity in such a beautiful park. If you haven’t been yet, I hope you’ll take advantage of one or both of the remaining Thursday concerts—grab a lawn chair, pack a picnic, maybe enjoy a social district beverage and come dance under the summer sky. See you in the park!
